Happy New Year 2018!

Thank God we made it!

Now we’re in the new year, 2018! – the long awaited year, filled with opportunities to explore, feats to attain, successes to achieve, goals to attain, heights to reach, mountain to overcome, and lots more. But would we just ride through 2018 with our old habits and traits that never really worked out for us in the past year? Would we continue with the old “vehicle” we used?

Here are Five (5) things we must quit doing in 2018 if ACTUALLY we desire making any of our big plans a reality.

  1. QUIT Trying to Please everyone!

If you put base your decision on what others think about you, you’ll not do much. Eleanor Roosevelt quotes:

You wouldn’t worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.

The fact is, you cannot please everybody! Everyone is not pleaseable no matter how much you try to comprmise or act. The problem of trying to please everybody is that there’s always at least one person who will remain unhappy with you.In 2018, try not to place your life all in the name of pleasing everybody; Just be yourself! Those that will love you, will love you and those that will hate will also hate you. Do what is right and not what is common or pleaseable.

Shannon Alder puts it this way:

“When you stop living your life based on what others think of you real life begins. At that moment, you will finally see the door of self-acceptance opened.”

2.  QUIT Fearing Change

As it is commonly said, Change is the only constant thing in life. There has always been a misconception about change and I think, Leo Tolstoy captures it well when he said:

“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”

In the words of Ghandi, Be the change you wish to see in the world! Yes, change is never easy, neither is it always sweet; it comes with a price.

“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.”  – Paulo Ceolho

  3.  QUIT Living in the Past!

Holding on to the past will only you deprive you of the excitement of tomorrow. Why would you want to live in the past when the present already has everything that you need to begin a new fresh beginning? Release the past and move on!

“Chasing your tale? Sometimes we relive past accomplishments, failures and or past relationships to the point of exhaustion. When we do this, I liken it to a dog chasing its tail, just spinning round and round and going nowhere fast. Constantly chasing our own tales has the same effect on us. It leaves us in a state of dizzying immobility. When we wrap our arms so firmly around our past we leave little room to embrace our present future and that, my friends, is a sad tale to tell.”  – Jason Versey

4.  QUIT Putting yourself down

Someone quotes: Learning to put yourself after going through shit is such an important thing no one ever teaches you. Bradkey puts it this way:”Infuse your life with action. Don’t wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen… yourself, right now, right down here on Earth.”

Enjoy every moment of your life. Life is too short to waste on grudges; Laugh when you can! Apologize when you should and let go of what you can’t change.”

If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something worthwhile!

5.  QUIT Overthinking!

Thinking (Self-reflection) is good, but Overthinking is toxic; it is a bad habit that’s capable of rotting great damage than we can imagine. There is nothing in this world that is capable of troubling you as much as your thoughts. You are what you think! Nursing thoughts of distressing situations, issues and challenges in life is one of the most destructive mental habits we can ever get involved in. We cannot change the past. It only steal our confidence and deny us our Joy,

These are just few among many bad habits that is capable of destroying us and depriving us the best of 2018!
